Star Jelly/Rot

That's not star jelly.

Neither's that.

Real picture of "Rot of the Stars":

Star Jelly are evasive to the camera as they can dissipate within hours even from tightly sealed test tubes, leaving behind an ashy residue.
The slimy jelly is usually found randomly in the wee hours of mornings in places such as gardens and in cities.
Ancient folklore even mentions Star Jelly, whose presence is attributed to the event of meteor showers or UFO's.
Many people believe it comes from space.

Attributes: The jelly is devoid of DNA material and mostly composed of water.
Squishy to human touch, it quickly evaporates or as we dare say...sublimates.
Many scientists would like to attribute it to discarded frog spawn (see top picture) while others note that the jelly resemble slime emitted by
certain "undiscovered" species of fungi, and that if it really came from space, it would have broken up during entry into the atmosphere.
Maybe it could be traced to the waste disposed by airplanes. This substance really has them scratching their heads.

Dramatic cases: There are cases cases alleging witnesses of star rot physically crawling across a lawn or up poles. O_O
These have been debunked to be an extraordinary type of slime mold called pseudoplasmodium.
This slime colony is an aggregation of individual slime mold, and as we know, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
It acquires animal-like capabilities of movement, and functions quite like a super-organism.

It has stirred up notable interest though in the past, even inspiring the movie, The Blob!
So next day after a meteor shower or UFO event, keep an eye out for the Star Jelly!
Report it to US(yes, Us) ASAP to the nearest scientist and tell him/her to bring gloves, test tube or glass jar, and a good seal.

If it look like this, run away!
